Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate percentage decrease?
Subtract the new value from the original value, divide by the original value, then multiply by 100. The formula is ((Original − New) ÷ Original) × 100. For example, a drop from 200 to 150 is ((200 − 150) ÷ 200) × 100 = 25%.
What is the percentage decrease formula?
Percentage decrease = ((Original Value − New Value) ÷ Original Value) × 100. The original value must not be zero, because you are dividing by it.
What does a negative percentage decrease mean?
A negative result means the new value is actually higher than the original, so it is a percentage increase rather than a decrease. The calculator flags this for you.
Can the original value be zero?
No. Dividing by zero is undefined, so the original value cannot be zero. Enter a non-zero original value to get a valid percentage decrease.
