Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate percentage increase?

Subtract the original value from the new value, divide by the original value, then multiply by 100. The formula is ((New − Original) ÷ Original) × 100. For example, a rise from 150 to 200 is ((200 − 150) ÷ 150) × 100 ≈ 33.33%.

What is the percentage increase formula?

Percentage increase = ((New Value − Original Value) ÷ Original Value) × 100. The original value cannot be zero, because you divide by it.

What does a negative percentage increase mean?

A negative result means the new value is lower than the original, so it is really a percentage decrease. The calculator highlights this for you.

How is percentage increase different from percentage difference?

Percentage increase has a clear original and new value, and is directional. Percentage difference is symmetric — it compares two values without treating either as the starting point.
